A Surprise Invitation

"There are exactly as many special occasions in life as we choose to celebrate."

Years ago, I heard to pray as if my desired outcome had already been given; instead of asking in prayer, to offer a prayer of thanksgiving. Immediately, I felt a shift in my energy and lift in my spirit as I challenged myself with this perspective pivot.

Though palpable enthusiasm was experienced immediately, I had no way of knowing the profound impact this practice would have on my life long term. When you begin a day with faith in prayers answered, with confidence in the greater good and peace in knowing all has already been worked out for you, it doesn't only make a difference in your day, it impacts your experience of life.

There are masses of thought leaders and authors who've offered fuel for our enlightenment with emphasis on this way of living. Here are only a few of my favorites:

  • The Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle),
  • The Surrender Experience (Michael A. Singer),
  • Tapping the Power Within (Iyanla Vanzant)
  • Emergence (Derek Rydall)
  • The Law of Attraction (Esther and Jerry Hicks

With an increased understanding of the power of faith, love and gratitude, we show up for life differently with growing enthusiasm, anticipation and thanksgiving. This alters our 'party of life' experience. RSVP for the slumber, masquerade and ever consistent pity party less and less. Accept the invitation to life as a Surprise Party. Commit to being unconditionally grateful for every guest and gift you get to experience.

Post an invitation (or several) with large words "You're Invited" around your home or office as a reminder to choose life as a Surprise Party. Stay away from the slumber, masquerade and pity parties. Those invitations are extended daily - to fall asleep to life's blessings, to wear masks for acceptance and to feel life is unfair. Get in the habit of denying those. Choose to find the gift in every unexpected Present. Choose to say "Thank You" for them, as well as the party crashers and party poopers who may be responsible for delivering them.

I promise the more you do this, the more you'll be led to a path of peace where you'll enjoy life; not simply endure it.
